A robust, all-season tread compound is molded into an aggressive design that balances void space and biting edges, with large block surfaces for effective grip on dry and wet pavement. Staggered block edges work in conjunction with tie-bars in the outboard shoulder to help minimize airborne noise that can emit from the pattern's off-road features, while also helping support the footprint under load for consistent handling and predictable steering response. Aggressive shoulder and sidewall features enhance loose-surface grip and help protect the upper sidewall area from abrasions and cuts in extreme off-road conditions.
Multi-directional grooves and sipes make up a network of biting edges for dynamic traction capabilities, working in combination with additional block edges to produce light snow traction that meets the tire industry's severe snow service requirements. Internal construction of the Dynapro AT2 Xtreme utilizes a two-ply casing to help resist punctures and damage during off-road use. Twin high-strength, steel belts are reinforced with two nylon cap plies for increased durability and stability at high speeds.
Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.
